The Spirit of Margazhi – A Family Tradition
The birds chirp, the rooster crows, and the chill makes you want to stay wrapped in your blanket. It’s the early hours of Margazhi, and the familiar sounds from the kitchen—the pooja preparations, Paati and Amma’s kolam, and lighting of the deepams—bring warmth and remind you of cherished family traditions.
Though you’d love to sleep, your parents wake you up for an early morning bath. Despite your reluctance, the cold breeze and vibrant kolam change the mood. The veedhi bhajanai to the temple, hand-in-hand with your Thatha, connects you to a larger cultural fabric, a tradition passed down through generations.
The temple has a unique spiritual energy, with Goshti reciting Thiruppavai and the scent of flowers, sambrani, and Amsigai filling the air. The rising sun and the divine atmosphere bring calm as you enjoy the Prasadam, and despite the schoolwork reminders, you embrace the peaceful Margazhi vibes.
Fast-forward to today: As a parent, you realise your child doesn’t experience these traditions like you did. Family rituals have changed with modern life. Don’t we all long to recreate that magical Margazhi experience for our children?
That’s why we have created the Margazhi Carnival—to bring the spirit of Margazhi to your child.
