Thirumalai Nambi set an example for humility and respectful person.Among the 5 Acharyans who weere assigned to Ramanujam by Alavanthan ,Thirumalai Nambi was one among them.Alavanthan's Sishya also Ramanujam's uncle . Nambi's sister 'Bhumidevi' is Ramanujam's mother.

The one who introduced Ramayana to Ramanujam and also named him 'Ilaya Alwar ' was Thirumalai Nambi .He even had a honour to do 'Theertham' seva to Perumal and how did he get this chance? Lets see that .

One day  Alavanthan was explaining  'Nammazhwar's ' pasuram(poem lines) ,while talking about perumal He felt like performing a 'Thirumanjanam-applying fragrant oil on main diety'  to Perumal.AS soon as his acharyan thought about it

Thirumalai Nambi started immediately to do 'Theertham' seva  after  getting permission from his Acharyan Alavanthan. Everyday He will getup early in morning ,finish his morning duties and get  water from 'Pamavinasha kulam' for Thirumanjanam .This 'Pamavinasham kulam' was very far so one fine day while returning from the 'kulam'one small hunter boy asked"Dada,can I have some water? " to Thirumalai Nambi .Thirumalai nambi said " This water is for Perumal Thirumanjanam and I am already very late ,there is a pond near by,

You can drink water from there." but the boy didn't leave him alone.

He kept asking for water by coming in his way. Thirumalai Nambi kept refusing and started walking towards the temple. The boy made a hole in the pot with his arrow and kept drinking behind Nambi.As Nambi noticed the reduce in weight and turned around and understood what was happening .He felt very sad .The boy asked Nambi not to worry and told he will show another place where he can find water.

He spiked his arrow on the ground and the water started pouring like a fountain.

The boy told "Dada,now you dont have to walk that far to get water from Pamavinasha Kulam ,you can get it from here because i like this water very much ". The way the boy was talking Nambi had a doubt and looked deep into the boy and Perumal made it obvious to him about his presense along with His Shankha and Chakra.

The water fountain is still known as 'Akasha Ganga' . Perumal attained a form of a small hunter  boy and helped his bhakta so that he doesnt have to walk far.Thirumalai Nambi has a honour of being called 'Dada' by Perumal Himself and this is reason he has another name 'Dadachariyar'.

In Thiruvarangam ,Ramanujam established the 'madam' and was running it successfully follwing all Vaishnava samprathayam.One day He felt like going to Thirumala and pray Srinivasa perumal so he started for the journey along with his sishya's .

As soon as Ramanujam entered Ananthahwan who was doing flower seva came running to Him to welcome Him.He requested Ramanujam to come up the hill and pray Perumal ,Ramanujam gave it a thought ' Adisheshan ,transformed as hill and bearing perumal ,How I can keepmy feet on him?'Ananthazhwan says "If you dont go ,noone will and Perumal will feel alone without seeing His bhaktas.Isn't Perumal's happiness our main goal? "

Ramanujam accepted and started climbing but not with his feet ,He used his knee as he didnt feel like using his feet . His kneed started bleeding . Ananthazhvan said "If you climb like this then everyone will do the same and everyone will start bleeding in pain then bhakta's will be scared to climb because of the pain it is causing and again people will reduce coming to see Perumal and again Perumal will not be able to see his bhakta's ". Then Ramanujam started climbing with his feet.Thirumalai Nambi was very happy on hearing Ramanujam's arrival. He rushed to welcome Him along with prasadham and garlands.On seeing Thirumalai Nambi Ramanujam was also filled with joy.

Ramanujam says " Isn't it enough to send a sishya for welcoming a small one like me ? " Thirumalai Nambi says "I searched everywhere and couldn't find a smaller person than me". 

Thirukolur penn says "The one who witnessed Srinivasa,Having a honour of Ramanujam's Acharya and teach him Ramayana , Alas! filled with humility and kindness .Just like Thirumalai nambi ,I dont have such quality "

For this Ramanujam says " In Ramayana ,Hanuman encourages Sita -"In Rama's monkey army there are best of best warriors and much stronger than me.For small jobs like this generally small person like me are sent so do not worry! Ravana will be defeated and Rama will save you . (This was humility of Hanuman )  same way Thirumalai Nambi also describes everyone being best in their work ,such are mindset of bhakta's who reside in Thirumalai .Thirumalai nambi describes himself having lesser bhakti than others.Being such a high caliber scholar he displays humility .This is the best virtue. I am very happy on hearing this, what are you going to talk about now?
